Signs of Autumn
The autumn leaves are changing
From green, to orange and gold;
The butternuts are falling;
Summer is growing old.
The partridges are drumming;
Squirrels run to and fro;
Robins in congregations
Soon south will start to go.
‘Coons and crows in the cornfields
Raise havoc with the grain;
‘Til farmers get their shot-guns
And scatter lead like rain.
