was a Deputy Sherrif in a posse when was shot on 9th Aug 1895 after wounding Sam Lewis. He died three days later. The posse was trying to capture Sam S. Lewis, a bar owner in Lemon City, who was wanted for the double murder of two bar patrons on 27 of July 1895. Rhett, as he was called, was the first police officer killed in the line of duty in Dade County. His name is on the police memorial in Washington, D.C., and a conference room at police headquarters in Miami is named for him. He was unmarried.
