Dillingham, born at Freeport, Maine, 29 April 1809; died at Minneapolis, Minn. 7 February 1874; married first 20 November 1834, Rosella White, born 13 May 1813; died 10 March 1854; married second in 1855, Lucy Ann Barnard, born 15 September 1827; died 26 January 1866; daughter of Silas and Lucy (Trask) Barnard of Dixfield, Maine. George W. was the youngest son of Melatiah Dillingham and his second wife, Elizabeth (Chandler) Dillingham. George married Rosella White in 1834 and was first enumerated as head of family in the 1840 census of Oxford County, Maine, with wife, and one son under five years of age. In the 1850 census of Dixfield, Oxford County, enumerated on 6 August, George was a merchant with real estate value of $800. In addition to his wife and two children, there were four non-relatives, apparently boarders, in his household. Rosella died in 1854, and George was married secondly in 1855 to Lucy Ann Barnard of Dixfield. About 1857 or 1858, George and family removed from Maine to Hennepin County, Minnesota and were residents of Minneapolis in the 1860 census. George's occupation was 'merchant,' his real estate value was $6500, and his personal property value was $2800. His oldest son, George Irving's occupation was 'miner.' George Irving died in 1862, and George's wife, Lucy, died in January 1866. George was still head of family in the 1870 census of Minneapolis. His occupation was, 'Boot and Shoe Merchant,' and his son Frederick was a clerk in his father's store. Other members of his household were the two youngest children who were attending school. George died in Minneapolis in 1874. Children of George W, Dillingham and his first wife, Rosella (White) Dillingham, all born in Maine: i George Irving, born 26 September 1837; died 29 May 1862. ii Frances Ione, born at Dixfield, Maine, 9 June 1841. She appeared in the 1850 and 1860 census schedules. iii Mary Alene,born 7 October 1848; died 10 September 1849. iv Frederick White 'Fred', born 11 August 1851; died 6 July 1893. He was listed in the Minneapolis City Directory for 1876, living at 103 North 4th Street. Children of George W. Dillingham and his second wife, Lucy Ann (Barnard) Dillingham, both born in Maine: v Edgar B., born 3 February 1856; married Elizabeth B. (_____), born in Ohio, October 1857. He was listed as a dental student in the 1876 Minneapolis City Directory, and was living in Minneapolis in 1900. No children in the 1900 census. vi Mary Barnard, born 13 September 1857.
