- BIO: Melatiah, second son of Edward and Marcy (Doty) Dillingham, was born and grew up in Hanover, Mass., and removed to Maine with his family ca 1783. In 1786 he bought land in Freeport, Maine, from Abner Dennison. He was a blacksmith as were his father and brothers. In the first U.S. census, 1790, Melatiah was enumerated as a head of family in Freeport, Cumberland County, Maine. His household was comprised of 1 male 16 or over, 1 male under 16, and 2 females. Joanna Dillingham died in August 1794, and a year later, Melatiah married second, Elizabeth, called Betsey, Chandler of Freeport. Sometime before 1830, Melatiah and some of his family moved to Dixfield, Oxford County, Maine. Melatiah died at Dixfield, 9 March 1833.
