  Note	Vernon was raised during the great depression and worked to help support his family while growing up. After marring and starting a family, he got a job as a trainman on the B&O, (Chessie) Railroad. He worked at this job until retirement. He also served as the treasurer for the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.
  Note	Vernon was active for many years as a scout master of troop 71 in Salamanca, NY. Under his leadership the troop traveled extensively to such places as the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, on Canoe Trips down the Allegany, including one from Salamanca to Pittsburgh, (before the Kinsua Dam was built). In his younger years he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He remained a fisherman and later took up golf with a passion. (He was about a 18 handicap)
  Note	Family tradition says that Vernon and Eleanor eloped to Buffalo to get married. His Aunt Winnie Milks was the mediator when he returned home with his new bride as considerable friction existed between the two families, supposedly over religion. In any event no marriage record has been yet located for Vernon and Eleanor.
  Note	After Eleanor died in 1969, he remarried Evelyn Barker, traveling extensively until she died in 1988. Shortly after the death of Evelyn, Vernon's emphysema, aggravated by a bout of pneumonia, forced him to exist connected to a oxygen tank. He spent his final years in an adult care facility in Eustus, Florida.
  Note	Vernon died November 25, 1992, from a combination of heart failure and emphysema.
