  Note	William was born mute. In 1841 when William was 17 there were no institutions in the Province for education of these people. The Rev. Wm. Chipman then Pastor of the Second Cornwallis Church and Rev. Mr. Owens Rector of the Episcopal Parish nearby, both took a deep enterest in the boy and suceeded in sending him to the excellent school in Harford, Conn. In 1846 he returned home bringing with him, his wife Linda. This very happy home was terminated by her death from exploding lamp burns. Wm. later married Emma Jane Lucas, also a mute and had four children, none mute. Dipththeria took away the three girls, leaving them with a son Lorne. Rev. Chipman said nothing could be more touching than to see this silent mother show the schoolbooks, the copy books and the little curls saved, making signs of her grief by pressing her hand over her heart. Wm. loved music and was in absolute ecstacy when he could put his hands on the organ when it was played. They used to walk 18 miles to go to church
